Itron, the global technology provider to utility companies, has placed an order for a smart payment kiosk technologies and services from Amatica.

The new kiosk will be installed in the Al Fanar Towers, an exclusive apartment block in Fujairah, in the United Arab Emirates. Tenants will be able to use the kiosk to pre-pay for their gas consumption.

The kiosk allows the customer to load credit onto their gas meter smart-card in their local currency, the Dirham.

The kiosk comes equipped with a high specification rugged motorised smart card reader for durability, which retains the card while the transaction is processed. This ensures it cannot be removed before credit is loaded onto the card. The kiosk also has a receipt printer for confirming transactions and a customised user interface to reflect the client’s brand and service message.

Amatica has customised Itron’s existing web point-of-sale software to enable it to be used on the self-service touchscreen kiosk. Amatica has also configured the kiosk to accept cash payments and integrated the Sitekiosk secure browser software to ensure transactions completed via the kiosk are secure, as well as enabling remote monitoring of the kiosk and its devices.

The pre-payment kiosk solution gives customers greater convenience and control over payment for their energy usage, while Itron and the gas supplier benefit from reduced billing and administration costs.

This is the second payment kiosk Amatica has configured for Itron. The first has been used to demonstrate Itron’s self-service utility payment solutions around the world.
