Kiosk Solutions - West Lancashire District Council - Housing

Project:
Deployment of information kiosks

Sector:
Local Government

Target:
General Public

The Requirement

Delivering online access to housing services was a key part of West Lancashire District Council's e-government strategy. Extending online services by installing public access kiosks around the borough was a way to ensure that socially excluded members of the community could access this information.

The Solution

Amatica has provided 9 touchscreen kiosks and re-purposed housing related information from the council's own website for use on the kiosks.

In order to enhance visibility and accessibility of the information and ensure visually impaired users are able to access the system, the kiosk content uses large fonts, interactive controls, high contrast colour schemes, and simplified menu layers.

The kiosks are equipped with A4 thermal printers so users can take information away with them if necessary.

The Outcome

The kiosks are sited in key locations around West Lancashire, including council and housing offices as well as local shops, ensuring as many residents have access to the services as possible.

The success of this project has led the council to install additional kiosks around the borough to extend more online services and internet access to the local community.
